To legally work as a CCTV operator in the UK, individuals must hold a licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Successful completion of the SIA CCTV training course allows candidates to apply for this licence. The qualification certificate is valid for three years, after which operators must renew their licence to continue working in the industry.
Operating CCTV without the required licence is a criminal offence and may result in fines or imprisonment. For this reason, both employers and operators must ensure that anyone monitoring CCTV systems holds the correct training and certification.
Before starting the course, candidates must also complete a Level 2 English assessment to confirm they can understand course materials and complete the required documentation accurately.
